Alexei Haieff's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No.1 won the New York Music Critics Circle Award in orchestral music in 1952. Leo Smit was the pianist when, on April 27, 1952 the noted conductor Leopold Stokowski conducted Alexei Haieff's Concerto for Piano and Orchestra No.1 at the Columbia Broadcasting TV Studio 60 when the CBS Radio Network broadcast this world premiere coast to coast.

Technical Note
AR-001 has a very short 1/10( .1) sec drop out on track 14 at the 3:44-3:45 min point in Sonata for Piano.
The timing of this brief silence is such that it almost sounds like it is part of the music.
No other CD compilation in which the Sonata for Piano is included have this drop out as it was detected
and corrected before the other CDs were produced.
